Leisure and cultural activities
A Boulogne-sur-mer University course does not stop at learning dispensed by professors. Outside the classroom at all times of the day and evening, there is another life, rich in leisure and recreational activities, new contacts and discoveries. The activities offered outside the classroom are special moments during wich you will be able to practice the French language, to get in touch and discuss with the activity leaders and the region’s inhabitants.
A minimum of 20 hours per week of activities are offered. This particularity of the Université d’été creates a congenial atmosphere that is especially appreciated by the students. Most leisure and cultural activities are free of charge. A team of activity leaders is ever-present to organize and lead these activities.
The activities are so diverse and adapted that they can interest students of any age.
The activities within the Université
- Various conferences will be organised during the students’ stay.
- Group games, parlour games, singing lessons, theatre, dancing
- Recreational evenings
- Sports activities: tennis, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and football...
- A «club» - a meeting place, where students can have coffee, read the press and gather for discussions – Open at various times throughout the day and evening.
- A study room where students can work alone or as a group, and consult various works. It is also available at various times throughout the day and evening.
- The Université d’été also has a theatre, which is used for several different activities.
Outside activities
- An excursion in the Boulogne-sur-Mer area is organized to discover he coastline, the hilly green countryside, and the historic and cultural heritage of the region.
- Outings to discover the long sandy beaches and seaside resorts in the surroundings
- Guided tour of the old city: the city walls, the castle, cathedral, the belfry.
- Visit of Nausicaa, (the French National Sea Experience Centre), of the Maison de la Beurrière (a reconstructed early 20th century fishermen’s home), of the Colonne de la Grande Armée.(Napoleonic site)...
- Participation in activities (concerts, shows…) organized n the city of Boulogne-sur-Mer during the summer
- Exploration of the surrounding natural areas by hiking and short walks from the centre.
- Two day-trips are organized in July and August, one to Lille, the regional capital, and to Paris.
- The Université d’été’s students often spend the weekend exploring Lille, Paris, London, Brussels, Bruges or Amsterdam on their own.
