The Université d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer is a non-profit making association created by the different universities in the Nord–Pas-de-Calais region, the Boulogne-sur-Mer City Council and local and regional institutions.
Since the creation of the Université d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer, the President is a President of a Honorary President of one of the regional universities.
The mission of the Boulogne-sur-mer Summer University is not only to teach French, but also to enable students to discover the region, the culture and traditions of the country, to put them in contact with the inhabitants, to welcome them and to provide entertainment. The Boulogne-sur-mer town council is equally involved in the reception and integration of our foreign guests in its town.

The Université d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer offers quality stays for participants of any nationality and any age wanting to improve their knowledge of French and experience the language and culture (For more details, please see… "Notre public".). The Université d’été organises the stays from A to Z: the intensive courses, a rich programme of leisure and cultural activities, the accommodation and meals on campus or with a host family, the contact with local inhabitants, a main reception open 7 days a week, days and evenings. It is also a DELF and DALF examination centre in the summer.

The mission of the Université d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer is part of a long tradition. Although officially created in 1951, French language stays have been organized in Boulogne-sur-Mer since the early 1900s.

The courses take place at the Lycée Mariette, which is located in the heart of the city, on a green campus, close to the city centre, the port, the beach and the old city. The Université d’été boasts a welcoming centre with numerous rooms and spaces adapted to offer a pleasant, efficient and agreeable stay.

Boulogne-sur-Mer is located in a touristic region which has numerous assets an is particularly lively in the summer. It is also close to Lille, Paris, London, Brussels, Bruges and Amsterdam, all of which can be easily visited in one or two days, during the week-end. For the duration of your stay, the University d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer will offer an activity programme which enables you to discover the region. Excursions are also organised during the week-end to discover some of the aforementioned cities (Paris, Lille…)

The price suggested by the Université d’été is minutely calculated to be affordable yet also to represent the programme’s quality, completeness, and diversity: classes (generally 20 hours a week) + cultural and leisure activities (at least 25 hours a week) + accommodation on campus or with a host family (non stop Sunday to Saturday) + full board accommodation. It is also possible to enroll only for the courses and cultural and leisure activities.

The language stay begins with a test which allow us to integrate each students in a homogenous group-level following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages : from the complete beginner to most experienced levels. Regarding the required level, please see "Our audience".
The courses take place from Monday to Friday (Monday afternoon and Tuesday to Friday mornings, so that the students can have a long week-end to visit some places of interest).
The number of students in the general French courses (15 hours per week on average) can vary between 12 and 15 people maximum while the number of students in conversation classes (5 hours per week on average) is reduced to 4 to 10 students maximum.
Ten students maximum will be accepted during the 5 weeks of training in the “complete beginners” level. It implies different fees.
