The students of the UNIVERSITE D'ETE

The Université d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer welcomes participants coming from 15 to 30 different countries during a stay. Our students’ jobs, qualifications or studies are as diverse as their ages.

The Université d’été’s participants enrol either for a general French language stay or they can be teachers or future teachers of French in a foreign country coming for lifelong education in didactics and pedagogy.The Université d’été can also receive groups of people who would like to improve their French on specific objectives (business French, theatre, tourism…)

The age of our students :

Adults (over 18 years old)

There is no age limit: you could either be 18, 40 or 60, what really matters is your will to improve your level in French language and culture. The groups are set up according to the level in French of each participant and the age difference often helps to create a friendly atmosphere and rich exchanges. Les répartitions par groupe se font par niveau de français et les différences d'âge contribuent bien souvent à la convivialité et à la richesse des échanges.

Students under 18

Welcoming young people under 18 is possible when they form a group with one or several supervisor(s) or if they are accompanied by their parents. To welcome groups of young people under 18, the Université d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer offers a special type of organisation that meets the regulations of the French government.This gives the young students a certain amount of autonomy while requiring that they meet certain rules for purposes of safety (e.g. no evening outings, presence of leaders to take charge of and authorise certain activities or not, etc).

The Université welcomes teenager during determined periods.

The groups of teenagers take advantage of a targeted programme of teaching and activities.

The students’ level in French

The Université d’été de Boulogne-sur-Mer organises courses for every level, from the elementary level to the experienced user levels. A targeted teaching is offered for each level group (oral activities, reading, writing, literature and civilisation).

The group-levels are organised according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages level descriptors at the beginning of a stay after a written test and an oral interview.

Required level in French :

for adults
You must know the first basic notions of French and be able to understand the simple instructions of the teachers. You need to have an elementary level (leve A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) which appears to be the level acquired after a minimum of 60 hours of French.
for groups
The « complete beginner » group level (do not understand or use simple sentences) can be accepted provided your group is homogenous and already formed by an group leader or an institution.

Welcoming groups

The Université d’été is particularly adapted to receive a group of students or pupils with their teacher(s). Interesting conditions are offered to these groups and their teacher(s).
We can also offer specialized sessions (e.g. French and Theatre) (see Themed courses)

Remark on people with difficulty in walking :

The City of Boulogne-sur-Mer is situated in a hilly location, with paths going up and down which can be very steep from one spot to another, including some of the facilities on the Boulogne-sur-Mer University’s premises. It is necessary to walk quite a bit during the day (for meals, courses, activities). Those with difficulty regarding mobility may find this difficult and tiring.
